stumble-prone
i was flipping through this newsletter for ex-pats (no, i'm not one. but my work demands that i peruse literature catering to rich, international folk), when - bam! - there he was. the cutest thing i've seen this side of the pacific. his name is charlie, and he was at some chichi party surrounded by some chi-fucking-chi people. i hate the society pages. they're all so "look at me! i'm having a grand old time with people you will never meet". well, fuck you, too.
anyway, he was pretty. and i mean mills-and-boon-cover pretty. so pretty, in fact, that i found myself grabbing a pair of scissors and cutting his photo out! ohmigod! i might as well be holding a double issue of tigerbeat in my hands and he might as well be kirk cameron! cousin witnessed the entire clipping-photo-of-cute-boy episode, and claimed it was just so "junior high". bleh.
after tucking controversial photo in wallet, i grabbed another available copy of the newsletter (we have many lying around, you see) and showed it to duck, who said, "doesn't he play polo? i've seen him play polo, and he's also cute in person." he plays what?!? who plays polo? i mean, besides the royal family and some really fanatic argentines? and more to the point, who watches polo matches?!? duckieeee! you have some 'splaining to do!
anyway, princess u called me up and said a tv-gal acquaintance of hers wanted to interview me. apparently they were doing segments on "careers" and she wanted a radio gal angle. oh-kay.
this is how that scene will play out:
tv gal: so why radio?
me: i just sort of stumbled into it.
tv gal: but didn't you take up broadcasting in university?
me: i sort of stumbled into that, too.
tv gal: okay, but do you love what you do?
me: love is such a strong word...
since i can't be radio's poster-gal, i passed the job on to kath - who, aside from having been in the biz a lot longer, is also very comfortable with fame. i mean, i want my fifteen minutes, too. but i'd rather not spend it waxing poetic over radio. i'd rather - i don't know - spend it making out with polo-playing cutie. or, if he's not available, kirk cameron will do, too.
