musings on a "working" holiday

it's the 24th and still i'm at work. it's just me and the tech here in the fm nook, rattling around by our lonesome. all over this city, people are napping, storing energy for tonight's festivities, burrowing under their blankets and breathing in the still-crisp december air. and here i am, at work, by myself, churning out the latest on the turkey blast and the u.s. mad cow scare. oh well.

can't wait to get home. have the big noche buena feast with the family and tear open gifts i've been hoarding for a few days now. i know it's not about the prezzies. i know it's about god and family. but those things enclosed in them pretty boxes and shiny papers are sort of... oh, i don't know! the icing on the cake? the croutons on the salad? you know what i mean.

we are playing nonstop christmas songs today, and i've fallen in love with dean martin's playful version of "baby, it's cold outside". oh, and harry connick, jr's big-band take on "sleigh ride". even michael buble's lounge-y "let it snow" made me smile. (forgive me, duck.)

was also totally touched by monica's "grown-up christmas list". sentimental fool that i am, i have to admit that my eyes sorta kinda misted over when i heard it on my way to work this morning. ah, such melodrama.

anyway, merry christmas, you.
