hope in what could be a totally involuntary facial tic

all is not lost. i may be (almost) 30, but i still have it. or a variation of it.

instance 1:

was driving down kalayaan, minding my own business. then, out of the corner of my eye, i noticed this guy - the one driving the car next to mine, the one staring. i look over and see him give me a jaunty, cocky wink! i tossed him this horrified, who-the-hell-are-you-and-why-are-you-winking-at-me look, and sped off in a total huff.

and then it hit me. he was cute! and young! definitely early 20-ish.

i had this stupid grin on my face all the way to work.

instance 2:

cous and i are faced with a flat tire on our way home. it's not like we don't know how to change a flat. we grasped the mechanics, and were we stuck in the middle of nowhere, we may have found it in ourselves to get down on our hands and knees and work that jack. but we were in the city. and boys just started gathering around us somewhat distressed damsels. they were young. healthy. eager to get grease under their fingernails. it was sweet.

all is not lost, i say. all is not lost.
